Healing is lifelong, but you are not defined by your trauma.
We’ve met mamas in our community just leaving the NICU, who are experiencing their PTSD daily in this world of pandemics, medical masks, and omnipresent hand sanitizer. We’ve also met mamas who had their babies 40+ years ago, who are still triggered by hospital beeps. And although our NICU journeys are a part of our stories, they aren’t THE story.
Words like “trauma”, “trigger”, and “PTSD” can be scary and isolating, not to mention stigmatizing. And while they are things you (and many people) experience, they aren’t YOU.
You may have experienced pain, but you’ve also experienced joy, you’ve seen beauty, and you’ve laughed until your stomach hurt. You’ve been brave in the face of danger, and you fought with courage when it mattered.
Suffering is a universal human experience. And while it is shocking and painful at times, it also unlocks connection with people you’d never imagine meeting. It shines a light on strengths you never knew you had, and you now understand a depth of humanity you didn’t know before.
We’re here to tell you that although healing might be hard sometimes, you never EVER have to walk through it alone. You are seen and loved as you are, sister!
