Love, Sara

“Dear NICU Mama, As another year comes to a close, I hope you celebrate all of the days you did the impossible. Maybe it was walking into the NICU for the first time or getting through one of the scariest days of your life. Maybe it was getting through a traumatic birthing experience or learning how to be a medical parent. When the year struck midnight on January 1st, you had no idea what it would hold for you. You handled so many obstacles with grace and have overcome so many challenging days. Be proud, mama – of all of the things you've done. Be proud and celebrate looking fear in the face and continuing to move forward. Mama, did so many tough things this year. And you deserve to celebrate making it through the impossible!”

Love,
Sara

More of Sara + Zack’s NICU Journey:

“My son Zack was born on February 25, 2023 at 33 weeks. He has a rare thalassemia that required intrauterine blood transfusions. We weren't expecting him to come so early but he had other plans. His first week in the NICU was uneventful and he was doing well. On March 4, Zack made a turn for the worse. He was diagnosed with necrotizing enterocolitis and was rushed to emergency surgery. The next few months would be the hardest of our lives. He experienced 3 more surgeries and multiple obstacles. Finally, on July 13, he was ready to come home. He came home with a central line for IV nutrition and a g-tube. Thankfully he's been able to come off IV nutrition and is beginning to wean off the g-tube. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine this being his story. Dear NICU Mama got me through some of the hardest days and I would love to help other mamas going through their hardest days.”
