Love, Jes

“Dear NICU Mama, When other people see your child as small for their age, know that as your NICU sister I see your child as mighty for their size.

Our warriors cannot be defined in weight or length. Instead, they can be measured in strength as we both know they have that well beyond their age, both chronological and adjusted. Let others hear their age, see their size, and wonder because between you and me, we know that the most beautiful miracles happen in the tiniest bodies. We also know how much they've grown and that while others see your baby now, you've seen them 10 times smaller. You've watched them grow and fight and become who they are today.

So, while outsiders might label your child as small, know that your NICU mama sisters who have ‘small’ children of their own will never judge strength in pounds. Because there is so much more to our children than that.”

Love,
Jes

More of Jes + Liam’s NICU Journey:

“My son, Liam, was born at 28 weeks. His second day of life, he was transferred to a bigger hospital due to needing a special ventilator that the current hospital did not have. He had a pulmonary hemorrhage that day, and we were so scared to lose him. He spent the next 4 weeks in that hospital until he was well enough to transfer him back to the local hospital. After 68 days in the NICU, 2 hospitals, 1 emergency helicopter ride, and who knows how many NG tubes, our Liam was discharged just in time for Christmas.”
